Kde nájsť Jade
Myanmar (Burma)
Primary source of high-quality jadeite, particularly the highly prized 'Imperial Jade'. Found in the Kachin State, especially around the Hpakant-Tawmaw region, in both primary (in situ) and secondary (alluvial) deposits.
China (Xinjiang, Liaoning)
Historically significant source of nephrite, particularly from the Kunlun Mountains (Hotan/Khotan jade) in Xinjiang and from Liaoning province. Also found in other regions.
New Zealand
Renowned for its nephrite, known as 'Pounamu' by the Maori people. Found primarily on the South Island, in riverbeds and glacial deposits, originating from serpentinite belts.
Russia (Siberia)
Significant deposits of high-quality nephrite, particularly in the Sayan Mountains and near Lake Baikal. Known for its vibrant green and spinach-green varieties.
Canada (British Columbia)
Major producer of nephrite, with large deposits in the Fraser River valley and other areas. Known for its dark green to black nephrite.
Guatemala
Important historical source of jadeite for Mesoamerican cultures. Rediscovered deposits in the Motagua Valley region, producing a range of colors including lavender and blue-green.
USA (California, Wyoming, Alaska)
Nephrite deposits are found in California (e.g., Big Sur), Wyoming (Lander area), and Alaska. Jadeite occurrences are rare but known in California (e.g., Clear Creek).
Tipy pre zbieranie
- Geological Context. Focus on areas known for serpentinized ultramafic rocks (for nephrite) or blueschist facies metamorphic terrains (for jadeite), often associated with ancient or active subduction zones. Alluvial deposits downstream from these primary sources are also excellent places to search.
- Density Test. Jade (especially jadeite) is notably dense. A simple 'heft test' (feeling its weight in hand) can help distinguish it from lighter simulants. Specific gravity measurements are more precise.
- Toughness Test (Caution). True jade is extremely tough and resistant to chipping. While not recommended for destructive testing, this property is why it was used for tools. It should not scratch easily with a knife (Mohs hardness 6-7).
- Texture and Luster. Look for a characteristic waxy to greasy luster on unpolished surfaces and a fine-grained, compact texture. Translucency is also a key indicator, especially for higher quality material.
- Associated Minerals. In primary deposits, look for jade associated with serpentine, chlorite, talc, magnetite, and various amphiboles or pyroxenes. In alluvial settings, it will be found as water-worn pebbles or boulders.
