Where to find Green Aventurine
India (Mysore region)
The most significant source of high-quality green aventurine, particularly from the Mysore region, known for its vibrant green color and strong aventurescence.
Brazil
Produces green aventurine, often with a slightly lighter green hue and varying degrees of aventurescence.
Russia (Ural Mountains)
Historically a source of aventurine, including green varieties, though perhaps less prominent for green than India.
Tanzania
Known for some occurrences of green aventurine.

Collecting tips
- Geological Context. Look for green aventurine in areas known for regional metamorphic rocks, particularly quartzites and mica schists. Outcrops of these rock types are good indicators.
- Visual Identification. Identify by its characteristic green color and the shimmering effect (aventurescence) caused by tiny mica inclusions. This sparkle is key to distinguishing it from other green minerals.
- Hardness Test. As a quartz variety, it will scratch glass (Mohs hardness 7). This helps differentiate it from softer green minerals.
- Field Equipment. A hand lens or loupe can help observe the small, platy inclusions responsible for the aventurescence. A hammer and chisel may be needed to extract samples from host rock.
