- Examine Road Cuts and Quarries. These artificial exposures often provide excellent cross-sections of rock layers, making it easier to spot chert beds and veining.
- Check Stream Beds and Gravel Pits. Erosion can transport chert fragments, and the distinctive appearance of veined chert can make it stand out among other pebbles.
