Florida, USA
Extensive deposits, particularly along the Atlantic coast, forming significant geological features like the Anastasia Formation. Famous for its use in historic buildings in St. Augustine.
North Carolina, USA
Found in coastal plain sediments, often associated with ancient shorelines and marine terraces.
South Carolina, USA
Similar to North Carolina, coquina deposits are present in Cenozoic coastal plain sequences.
Mexico
Occurs in various coastal regions, particularly in the Yucatán Peninsula, where it contributes to the karst landscape.
Brazil
Found along parts of the Brazilian coast, often in Quaternary deposits.

Collecting tips
- Coastal Environments. Look for coquina in modern or ancient coastal settings, especially where shell beds are common. Beaches, dunes, and shallow marine platforms are prime locations.
- Road Cuts and Quarries. In areas known for coquina, road cuts, construction sites, and quarries can expose fresh outcrops.
- Erosion Zones. Coastal erosion can expose coquina layers along cliffs or bluffs.
- Fossil Hunting. Coquina is essentially a fossil hash, so areas rich in marine fossils are good indicators.
