1. Geological Context. Look for areas with past volcanic activity, especially those with rhyolitic or basaltic flows. Agates often form in the amygdales (gas bubbles) or veins within these rocks.
2. Associated Minerals. Crazy Lace Agate can be found alongside other forms of chalcedony, quartz, and sometimes calcite or zeolites within geode structures.
3. Surface Indicators. Weathering can expose agate nodules. Look for rounded, often dull-surfaced stones that may show hints of banding or color when broken open. Stream beds and eroded hillsides are good places to search.
4. Safety Precautions. Crazy Lace Agate is primarily composed of silica (SiO2). When cutting, grinding, or polishing this material, fine silica dust can be generated.
