- Check Mine Dumps. Old mine dumps from copper operations are excellent places to find specimens, as miners often discarded non-ore minerals.
- Examine Cavities and Fractures. Malachite often forms in vugs, cavities, and fractures within the limonite/goethite matrix, where solutions could circulate and precipitate minerals.
- Safety Precautions. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when collecting, especially in old mine sites. Be aware of unstable ground, sharp rocks, and potential exposure to heavy metals. Malachite contains copper and should not be ingested or used in food/drink preparation.
