Where to find Dalmatian Jasper
Chihuahua, Mexico
One of the primary sources for high-quality Dalmatian Jasper, often found in volcanic or hydrothermally altered regions.

Collecting tips
- Geological Context. Look for areas with evidence of past volcanic activity, hydrothermal alteration, or sedimentary formations rich in silica. Jasper often forms in veins, nodules, or as replacements in host rocks.
- Associated Minerals. Dalmatian Jasper may be found alongside other quartz varieties, chalcedony, and minerals associated with hydrothermal systems or volcanic rocks.
- Surface Indicators. Exposed outcrops or stream beds in known localities can reveal weathered pieces. Look for distinctive white to cream-colored rocks with black speckles.
- Hardness Test. As a form of quartz, it will scratch glass (Mohs hardness 7). This helps distinguish it from softer look-alikes.
