Collecting tips
- Geological Context. Look for areas with felsic igneous intrusions or extrusions that show signs of hydrothermal alteration. The rock is not typically found in sedimentary environments.
- Visual Identification. The distinctive spotted pattern on a light background is the key identifier. Examine outcrops for this characteristic appearance.
- Hardness Test. Due to its high quartz content, Dalmatian Jasper will be relatively hard (Mohs 6.5-7), which can help distinguish it from softer rocks.
