Collecting tips
- Geological Context. Look for areas with felsic volcanic or subvolcanic rocks (rhyolite, aplite) that show signs of hydrothermal alteration. Outcrops may reveal fine-grained, light-colored rocks with dark mineral disseminations.
- Visual Identification. The distinctive spotted pattern is the key identifier. The spots should be black or dark brown against a light, often opaque, background. Be wary of artificially dyed or patterned materials.
