Historically significant deposits, particularly for purple and yellow fluorite, often associated with lead-zinc mineralization.

Collecting tips
- Look for Hydrothermal Veins. Fluorite is commonly found in veins cutting through other rocks, often alongside quartz, calcite, barite, and sulfide minerals.
- Check Mine Dumps. Abandoned mine dumps from lead, zinc, or silver operations are excellent places to search for fluorite, as it is a common gangue mineral.
- Observe Crystal Habits. Look for characteristic cubic or octahedral crystals. Even small fragments will often show the perfect octahedral cleavage.
- Test for Hardness. Fluorite is relatively soft (Mohs 4), so it can be scratched by a knife or steel file, but not by a copper coin.
- UV Light (Optional). Many fluorite specimens exhibit fluorescence under shortwave or longwave UV light, often glowing blue, green, or purple. This can be a useful, though not definitive, identification tool.
