Collecting tips
- Look for Metamorphic Terrains. Focus your search in regions known for regional metamorphism, especially those with ancient cratons or orogenic belts.
- Identify Green Coloration. The distinctive green color is the primary indicator. Look for rocks with a shimmering or sparkling appearance.
- Check for Hardness. Quartzite is very hard (Mohs 7). Test with a steel file or knife; it should not scratch easily.
- Examine Texture. Look for interlocking granular texture characteristic of quartzite, combined with small, reflective green flakes of fuchsite.
