Where to find K2 Jasper
Skardu area, Northern Areas, Pakistan
The primary and currently only known source of K2 Jasper is near the base of K2 Mountain (Mount Godwin Austen) in the Skardu region of the Gilgit-Baltistan area of Pakistan. This remote and high-altitude location is where the unique granite with azurite inclusions was first discovered and mined.
Collecting tips
- Geological Context. K2 Jasper is found in granitic intrusions within mountainous regions. Look for areas with evidence of copper mineralization and hydrothermal alteration.
- Visual Identification. The distinctive white granite with bright blue spots is the key identifier. Be wary of imitations or dyed materials.
- Remote Location. Access to the primary source near K2 Mountain is extremely challenging and requires specialized mountaineering and logistical support. Most K2 Jasper is obtained through commercial suppliers.
