- Check for Acidic Environments. Jarosite formation is favored by acidic conditions, often indicated by the presence of other sulfate minerals or acidic drainage.
- Test for Carbonate Reaction. Malachite will effervesce (fizz) with dilute hydrochloric acid, confirming its carbonate nature. Iron oxides and jarosite will not.
