Brazil
Significant deposits, particularly in Minas Gerais, known for large, high-quality muscovite books.
India

Collecting tips
- Look in Metamorphic Terrains. Muscovite is a hallmark mineral of medium-grade metamorphic rocks. Search in schists, gneisses, and phyllites, especially in areas with exposed bedrock.
- Explore Pegmatites. Pegmatite dikes are excellent places to find large, well-formed muscovite crystals, often associated with quartz, feldspar, and tourmaline.
- Check Granitic Intrusions. Muscovite can be a primary mineral in some granites, particularly two-mica granites. Look for silvery flakes within the rock matrix.
- Examine Stream Sediments. Due to its resistance to weathering and platy habit, muscovite flakes can accumulate in stream beds and alluvial deposits, often appearing as 'gold' flakes (though it lacks the density and malleability of gold).
- Safety Precautions. Muscovite itself is not considered hazardous. However, always wear appropriate safety gear (gloves, eye protection) when collecting rocks, especially in areas with sharp edges or unstable ground. Be aware of your surroundings and potential hazards in the field.
