Collecting tips

- Check for Friability. Many weathered iron-rich sediments are unconsolidated or poorly cemented, making them easy to break apart with a hand or geological hammer.
- Consider the Climate. These sediments are more prevalent in regions that have experienced or are currently experiencing warm, humid climates conducive to chemical weathering.
- Observe Associated Rocks. Often found in proximity to mafic igneous rocks (basalt, gabbro) or other iron-rich source rocks that have undergone weathering.
