Rose Quartz
Major deposits are found in Brazil (Minas Gerais), South Africa, India, Madagascar, and the United States (South Dakota, Maine).
Tiger's Eye
Primarily found in South Africa (Griqualand West), Western Australia, and smaller deposits in India, Myanmar, and the United States.
Red Jasper
Widespread globally, with notable occurrences in India, Russia, Indonesia, Egypt, Australia, and the United States (Oregon, California).
Collecting tips
- Rose Quartz. Look for massive pink quartz in pegmatite dikes or hydrothermal vein systems. It often occurs alongside other pegmatite minerals like feldspar and mica. The color can fade with prolonged exposure to sunlight.
- Tiger's Eye. Search in areas known for crocidolite (asbestos) deposits, particularly in metamorphosed iron formations. The characteristic chatoyancy is a key identifier. Be aware of the potential presence of unreplaced crocidolite (asbestos) in raw specimens.
- Red Jasper. Found in sedimentary layers, volcanic rocks, and hydrothermal deposits. Its opaque, dense nature and vibrant red color are distinctive. It often occurs as nodules, veins, or as a component of chert.
