Collecting tips
- Aventurine. Look for areas with mica-rich metamorphic rocks or hydrothermal quartz veins. The characteristic shimmer is a key identifier.
- Carnelian. Search in areas with weathered volcanic rocks, riverbeds, and gravel deposits where chalcedony nodules might be present. Look for translucent, reddish-orange to brownish-red pieces.
- Rose Quartz. Explore pegmatite dikes and massive quartz veins. Look for large, anhedral masses of pink quartz. The color can fade with prolonged exposure to sunlight.
- General Quartz Identification. All varieties will scratch glass (Mohs hardness 7) and will not react with common acids. Look for conchoidal fracture.
