Collecting tips
- Look for Hydrothermal Veins. Green quartz often forms in hydrothermal veins cutting through igneous or metamorphic rocks. Look for areas with quartz outcrops and evidence of past fluid activity.
- Examine Pegmatites. Pegmatite dikes can host large quartz crystals, some of which may contain green mineral inclusions.
- Check Metamorphic Terrains. Regions with chlorite-rich metamorphic rocks are good places to search, as chlorite is a common inclusion in green quartz.
- Identify Inclusions. When examining quartz, look for diffuse green coloration, or visible specks, fibers, or cloud-like patterns of green minerals within the crystal.
- Distinguish from Aventurine. Aventurine typically has a distinct 'spangled' or glittery effect due to reflective mica flakes. Green quartz with chlorite inclusions usually has a more muted or fibrous appearance.
