India
Significant deposits, particularly in the Mysore region, are known for producing various colors of aventurine, including yellow.

Collecting tips
- Geological Context. Look for Yellow Aventurine in areas known for regional metamorphism, particularly where quartzites or meta-sedimentary rocks are present. It often occurs in veins or lenses within these host rocks.
- Aventurescence. The key identifying feature is the aventurescence. Rotate the sample under a light source to observe the characteristic shimmering effect caused by the reflective inclusions. This is more apparent on polished or freshly broken surfaces.
- Hardness Test. Perform a scratch test. Quartz has a Mohs hardness of 7, so it will scratch glass and steel. This helps differentiate it from softer minerals.
- Color and Inclusions. Observe the color carefully. Yellow Aventurine's color is typically due to iron-bearing inclusions. While Fuchsite (chromium-rich muscovite) causes green aventurine, yellow aventurine's inclusions are usually muscovite (with iron), illite, goethite, or hematite. Microscopic examination can confirm the nature of the inclusions.
