Where to find Green Aventurine
India (Mysore region)
One of the most significant sources of high-quality green aventurine, particularly from the state of Karnataka.
Brazil
Produces substantial quantities of green aventurine, often found in pegmatites and metamorphic rocks.
Russia (Ural Mountains)
Historically known for aventurine, including green varieties, often associated with mica schists.

Collecting tips
- Look for Metamorphic Terrains. Focus your search in areas known for regional metamorphism, particularly those with schists and gneisses. Aventurine is often found in association with these rock types.
- Identify the 'Sparkle'. The most distinctive feature of aventurine is its aventurescence. Look for a subtle to pronounced sparkling or shimmering effect when rotating the rock in light. This is due to the mica inclusions.
- Check for Green Coloration. While aventurine comes in other colors, green aventurine is specifically characterized by its green hue, typically caused by fuchsite. The color can be uneven.
- Test Hardness. As a variety of quartz, green aventurine will have a Mohs hardness of 7. It will scratch glass and steel. This helps differentiate it from softer green minerals.
- Examine for Inclusions. Under magnification, you may be able to see the small, platy mica inclusions responsible for the aventurescence. These are typically green (fuchsite) in green aventurine.
