Where to find Brecciated Jasper
United States

Collecting tips
- Look for Tectonic Zones. Brecciated jasper is often found in areas that have experienced significant geological stress, such as fault lines, shear zones, or areas of intense folding. Look for outcrops with evidence of fracturing and subsequent cementation.
- Identify Jasper Outcrops. First, identify areas known for jasper deposits. Once jasper is located, examine the surrounding rock for signs of brecciation, where the jasper has been broken and re-cemented.
- Examine Road Cuts and Riverbeds. These exposures can reveal cross-sections of rock formations, making it easier to spot brecciated textures. Riverbeds can also contain tumbled pieces of brecciated jasper.
- Check for Hydrothermal Alteration. Some brecciated jaspers form in hydrothermal environments. Look for associated minerals or alteration zones that might indicate past hydrothermal activity.
