Where to find Septarian Nodule
Madagascar
Known for large, high-quality Septarian Nodules with excellent yellow calcite and dark brown aragonite patterns, often found in Cretaceous marine sediments.

Specifically the 'Dragon Egg' nodules from the Morrison Formation (Jurassic) and other localities, often exhibiting distinct patterns.

Collecting tips
- Look for Concretions. Septarian nodules are a type of concretion. Search in sedimentary rock outcrops, especially those composed of shale, mudstone, or limestone, where concretions are common.
- Exposed Sedimentary Layers. Coastal cliffs, riverbeds, and road cuts often expose sedimentary layers where erosion can reveal nodules. Look for rounded or ovoid shapes that stand out from the surrounding rock.
- Weathered Surfaces. Weathering can sometimes highlight the internal patterns of septarian nodules, making them easier to identify even before cutting. Look for subtle cracks or color variations on the surface.
- Associated Fossils. Since they often form around organic nuclei, the presence of fossils (shells, plant debris) in the surrounding rock can indicate a favorable environment for septarian nodule formation.
