- Check for Botryoidal or Nodular Forms. Chalcedony frequently exhibits these characteristic growth habits, which can be indicative of its presence. The iron staining will be visible on the surface or within fractures.
- Observe Color and Luster. The waxy luster and translucent to opaque nature, combined with the distinctive reddish-brown to orange hues from iron, are key identifiers. A fresh break might reveal the underlying chalcedony color.
