- Look in Volcanic Terrains. Focus on areas with basaltic lava flows, especially those with amygdaloidal structures (gas bubbles filled with secondary minerals) or hydrothermal veins.
- Check Mine Dumps and Quarries. Active or abandoned quarries and mine dumps in appropriate geological settings can be excellent sources, as fresh rock exposures are often available.
- Examine Cavities and Fractures. These minerals typically grow in open spaces. Look for vugs, geodes, and fractures within the host rock.
- Identify Associated Minerals. The presence of other zeolites (e.g., heulandite, laumontite), prehnite, calcite, or quartz can indicate a favorable environment for this assemblage.
- Safety Precautions. When collecting, always wear appropriate safety gear (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, sturdy boots). Be aware of unstable rock, especially in quarries or cliffs. Chalcopyrite contains copper and iron; while generally stable, avoid ingesting dust. Always wash hands after handling mineral specimens.
