- Coastal and Arid Environments. These environments provide the necessary conditions for salt weathering and rapid evaporation, which are key drivers of tafoni formation.
- Exposed Rock Faces. Search on cliffs, large boulders, and rock outcrops where weathering agents have prolonged access to the rock surface.
- Observe Differential Weathering. Look for areas where the rock surface shows uneven erosion, with softer parts hollowed out and harder parts remaining as rims or pillars.
